Clear Creek ISD is proud to announce that LaVace Stewart Elementary teacher Tammy Verstrate is the recipient of the prestigious 2016 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award for Leadership. The Leadership Category honors teachers with 10 to 20 years of experience in the classroom and earned Verstrate a $10,000 check for herself and a $10,000 grant for Stewart Elementary. She had previously been named as one of the five finalist for the award earlier this year, along with Principal Dr. Michael Marquez from McWhirter Elementary who was a finalist in the Elementary Principal category. “This award is a true testament to just how much of an impact Mrs. Verstrate has had on the students, staff and Stewart community,” said Greg Smith, Superintendent of Schools. The school district and her principal nominated Verstrate for this state-wide award based on her love of learning and dedication she displays each day as a Two-Way Immersion teacher. H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards program in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators in 2002 as a positive way to support public education in Texas. It has become the largest monetary program for educators in the state, spotlighting best practices and celebrating the passion and creativity of Texas educators.
